Kroma began with one simple belief: that art belongs in everyday life.
More than fifty years later, that belief still guides everything we make. Today, our family continues the work Murray Schwartz began, creating handcrafted dichroic glass pieces that transform with light, inviting a little more beauty into the everyday.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Long before dichroic glass became a medium for artists, it was developed for aerospace technology.
As an aerospace engineer, Murray Schwartz discovered the material while working with advanced optical coatings. Fascinated by the way it captured and transformed light, he saw something few others did. Not just a scientific innovation, but an artistic one.
He left engineering behind and founded Kroma in California, becoming one of the first artists to dedicate his work to dichroic glass.
His greatest legacy wasn't simply introducing people to dichroic glass. It was showing us how art can change the way we experience everyday moments.
